It’s spring . . .

How did we miss March?  One week we were finishing up February and now all of a sudden we are in the middle of April!  I don’t think we are the only ones who are seeing the weeks slip by so quickly.

A couple weeks ago we had temps in the low 70’s, then not too long afterward it was snowing . . . . not the typical ‘onion snow’ that helps those early spring onion sets get off to a good start.  Nope, we were shoveling 8 – 10 inches of snow (and hadn’t even got the onions planted yet)!

Right now, we are getting ready for the Spring Adams/York County’s Best Kept Secrets Tour that begins April 20.  There are lots of great things about this shopping tour – too many to name, but we’ll point out a few.  This is not just a weekend trip around to see a few shops. The self-guided tour begins April 20 and ends May 6.  So, you have lots of opportunities to visit the 24 businesses that will be ready to welcome you with smiles and open arms!

More than half of the businesses are brand new to the shopping tour!  Maybe you’ve never even heard of some of them!  All are independent, locally owned and full of interesting goodies — and some include food! We found out that folks come from far away places – like Virginia and Philadelphia – to ‘do the tour’ with their mom, sisters, neighbors, co-workers, college friends — and have a great time together visiting and shopping.

When you buy your ticket, you get a map with listings of each business and where in the world you can find them.  You’ll find out what kind of activities each stop has waiting for you. There will be coupons and prizes and give aways and opportunities to win after the tour is over.  And part of the ticket price goes to a local non-profit organization!

Look for more information here . . . and enjoy the tour.

14 Years . . .

February 2003, we opened our shop to replace a gift shop in our mall when they decided to close.  At the time, it seemed like a good idea.

February 2017. We still think it was a good idea!  It’s been a lot of hard, sometimes intensive work — but the people we’ve met, friends made, and experiences we’ve had — have made this trip far more interesting than we could have imagined.

So we are celebrating!  This weekend, February 23 – 26, we are having a party!  There is cake, dips to sample, gift with purchase, door prizes, and a chance to see our newest spring goodies. We’ve asked you all to bring along single servings of non-perishable foods to donate to Ruth’s Harvest School Backpack Program – and you have!

So much was going on Thursday and Friday that we didn’t get any photos of what’s been happening so far, but if you haven’t been in yet – here are some things you might be missing!  See you soon!

Leaving January

Here in south central Pennsylvania, we’ve been very fortunate with the winter weather – so far.  Some folks might blame the milder winter on global warming.  We blame it on the brand new, shiny red snow blower that sits in the garage unused since early December when it took up residence there.

We had a touch of spring-like temps last week as the thermometer rose to 60+ degrees. Short sleeves and flip-flops made an appearance!  One day, we had bright sunny weather and it was great to see people in sun glasses!  The sunshine (remember that?) warmed up the front of the shop to more than we had the thermostat set for.

But alas, it’s January in Pennsylvania . . . and we’re back to cloudy, nippy, windy, wintry weather.  The spring tease was great when it happened, but we knew in our hearts that it would not last for long.  The daylight hours are growing longer each day, so we remember that winter will be on its way out – just probably not as soon as we want it to leave.

In February, we celebrate 14 years in business. Yeaah!  We’ve been in business 14 winters, springs, summers and falls – and like most people who live in 4-season country, we love them all.  But February, even though it’s the shortest month of the year, often seems like the longest as we trudge thru the last days of this season.

Since we finished inventory earlier in the month, some folks have stopped in and commented, ‘I didn’t think you’d still have winter things out’ . . .  like it was the middle of April.  Didn’t they notice the Valentine section with the cute hearts, bears, loving sentiments and cards? They must not have seen the early spring flags and porch mats with bluebirds and Irish clovers. They were not interested in the new spring greenery – ferns and brighter color berry garlands.  They only saw the few lonely snow people, a couple icy coated pinecone branches and green (undecorated) trees holding the places for new, springy – bunnies, florals and more to be coming soon.  And, by-the-way, it’s just January!

So, buckling under peer pressure (and our own hope of the spring to come) we did begin to clear out and clean up what was – and put out (just a bit of) what’s to come.  Just a tease for now, just like the real thing outside.  So if you stop by sometime soon, you will see the transformation from full on winter to slowly coming spring.  Just like the daffodils in the garden poking their tops thru the mulch.

Hang in there – let’s see what the groundhog has to say 🙂

You might think this is a slow time of year for us here in the shop. With the cold, windy, icy, snowy weather – we may see fewer of you come by here, but we have been plenty busy! Finishing up inventory this week, continuing to bring in new product we know you will love, deep cleaning the entire shop, trips to buying shows and lots more!

We thank you for your support especially this past year and over the last 14 years! We know you have many choices of where to shop and we are pleased to be on your list!

Check out a few of the goodies we have on sale now – soon to be packed away. And remember we will be closed on Mondays in January!
