Thanks to all !

Black Friday is not our busiest day of this shopping season.  Small Business Saturday, while we are grateful to American Express for promoting the idea of a dedicated day to shop small businesses, is not our busiest day of this shopping season.  But over the next 4 weeks, our customers will make this our busiest month of the year.  Some of you have come into the store for the first time wondering how long we’ve been open (and how long you’ve missed out not knowing we were here).  Some of you make it here once or twice a year when you are in the area visiting  your families.  Some of you have already been by here several times this month (we’ve let you know how much we appreciate your effort to single-handedly keep us in business!).   Some of you are so familiar with our store and our products, you’ve taken it upon yourself to help other customers with advice from your experience with curtains, braided rugs and dip mixes, or where to find the silicone coated light bulbs, or which string lights work the best on what size tree or garland . . . we love you all!

We opened at 5am Black Friday and served coffee and snacks all weekend after Thanksgiving . . . and didn’t even make you wait in line for hours to pick up what you needed.  We have a candy dish at the counter (right now filled with Root Beer Barrels) to give you some shopping energy.  While we don’t sell big screen tv’s or the latest electronic gadgets or expensive jewelry — you know we have some    straight-from-the-heart gifts that make you smile and express the sentiments we all love to share in this season of giving.

We are kicking off our annual Twelve Days of Christmas sale starting this weekend.  Each day we will have a different product or group of products on sale.  New this year we will post our sales at the start — except for December 12, which will be a once-in-a-lifetime-sale for us (just like 12/12/12!)

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

Thanksgiving Proclamation by Abraham Lincoln

“Now, therefore, I, Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States, do hereby appoint and set apart the last Thursday in November next as a day which I desire to be observed by all my fellow-citizens, wherever they may be then, as a day of thanksgiving and praise to Almighty God, the beneficent Creator and Ruler of the Universe. And I do further recommend to my fellow-citizens aforesaid, that on the occasion they do reverently humble themselves in the dust, and from thence offer up penitent and fervent prayers and supplications to the great Disposer of events for a return of the inestimable blessings of peace, union, and harmony throughout the land which it has pleased Him to assign as a dwelling-place for ourselves and for our posterity throughout all generations.”

Enter into His gates with thanksgiving… be thankful unto Him, and bless His name. Psalm 100:4

Thanks to DaySpring for the quote.

Welcome to November!

How did it get to be November . . . and what happened to October?

Many of you may have been affected by the stormy weather along the east coast last week.  Here in Hanover in southern Pennsylvania, we got much rain and wind .  .  . but most folks we’ve been talking to feel very lucky to have gotten off without even an electric blink.  Our hearts and prayers go out to all of you who are dealing with the aftermath of Sandy.

We have been busy changing seasons in the store.  Out with the fall (packing up a couple boxes of goodies till next year) and in with the winter and Christmas inventory.  It almost seems like Christmas while we are reopening boxes that we got way-back-when in July!

So, while we have been digging thru boxes of beautiful product you will want to see . . . we managed to move some displays around.  You will see the difference next time you stop by.  In the meantime — here is a sneak peak inside!

We moved our cubby display to our candle area and are using it to show off our battery operated candles.  While there are many, many Battery Candle designs out there – we have picked some we really like, and it seems our customers like them too!  We may also use a few of these spaces here for our string lights (so we have room to display our boxed Christmas Cards where our string lights currently are!)

Just wanted to remind you that we have wooden calendar frames that hold our Lang, Legacy and Crossroads primitive calendars.  During our 12 Days of Christmas Sale (that starts later this month) we will have a special that involves these calendar frames.  Currently we have black, vintage red, saddle, honey walnut and oak frames.  Our final order of  Lang mugs and 2013 Lang calendars has just been sent in.  We still have a nice selection of all our wall calendars – and we also have cloth calendars!

Our snowmen and snowladies are patiently waiting for you to come by!

By the way, while we are decorating for Christmas, we always keep an area with some fall florals, garlands and ‘turkey’ items for those of you who would like to pick up something to add to your Thanksgiving table!

Excitement

We are in the process of packing up fall decor and unpacking winter and Christmas items.  Changing of the seasons reminds us that our lives are everchanging and each day is a gift.  We might be a little sad to see something pass by, but how exciting what is coming  just around the corner!

Changing out can be just like at home — right now the store is a bit of a mess with boxes and bags of goodies on the floor.  Everyone has been patient with this temporary look — for just a couple more days.  But, just take a look at these photos to see how everything is coming together.

Our 8 foot tree is getting decorated with a snowman tree hugger taking it all in.

These happy snowmen are greeting customers at our entrance.

The potting shed is being transformed with many decor and gift possibilities.

Come by and take advantage of our flag early buy sale thru November 15.  We have a great selection of garden flags, standard flags and mailbox covers right now.  Thru Monday, buy one flag or mailbox cover at regular price and get a second regular priced one at 50% off.  You can mix or match styles or designs (a mailbox cover and a garden flag for example) with the lesser priced one at 50% off.

We have had a sampling of Christmas cards out for awhile . . . now we have all of them on the shelf and beginning this Saturday (November 13) if you buy 2 boxes, get 5% off and 3 or more boxes, get 10% off.

We will keep some fall and Thanksgiving items out thru that holiday.  Other fall things were put away, but not too far.  If you need something for your Thanksgiving decor, just ask and we may be able to put our hands on what you are looking for.

Keep checking back here for updates, and heads up on specials we are having this season.

Tomorrow is Veteran’s Day.  We want to thank those who have served and continue to serve in our country’s military.

EXITING OCTOBER

All of a sudden, it’s the end of October — how did that happen?  What a busy month we have had!  We continue to have Christmas and winter items arriving.  We are also trying to stock up on your favorite candles and scents . . . but please know as you stop in to shop, if you don’t see your favorite ‘flavor’, let us know because we may be able to add to an order we are sending off!

For the last couple of weeks, we’ve had customers ask WHEN will you have Christmas things out?   It’s never been a secret with us . . . Christmas product doesn’t go out ’till trick-or-treat is over.   Maybe some folks will go to stores who already have their decorated trees and other things displayed . . . but many of you are in agreement with us (maybe because we remember when ‘Christmas’ didn’t happen until after Thanksgiving Day)!

Speaking of trick-or-treat, stop by the mall tonight with your kiddos for our annual trick-or-treat night beginning at 6:00.  There is a line that forms near the entrance at Dick’s Sporting Goods and will travel around inside the mall to show off their costumes and gather treats from participating stores.  We really enjoy seeing everyone, especially the little scarecrows, lions, princesses, frogs and other creatively costumed individuals walking by.  Check back here tomorrow for some photos from the evening!

In the next two weeks when you come in, you will see a transformation from our beautiful fall decor to a winter look.  Lots of greens: wreaths, trees of many styles and sizes, candle rings and picks.   Many ornaments:  lots of different looks — to use on your own trees and to give as gifts, or as add-ons to gifts.  Lots of cute, cute, CUTE Blossom Bucket snowmen, santas, and more!

All the extras, plus our regular great gifts that we offer everyday!  And, just because we are getting ready for the Christmas season doesn’t mean we’ve forgotten about Thanksgiving.  Many of you will be stopping by for a wreath or something floral to give color to your Thanksgiving table — or our Keepers of the Light pumpkin jar candles in great scents — or new to us this year, orange glass pumpkin oil lamps to use inside or out.

We do still have a great selection of gorgeous fall flags, mailbox covers and colorful floor mats suitable for outdoors.  Over the next weeks, we will post photos of product we are putting out on our shelves . . . some of which we checked in during July and August and haven’t seen since then!    How exciting!

Stop back often!
